Goal
Master the Market. Trade in as many securities as you like and try to get the highest return! Buy low and Sell high. Sounds easy, doesn’t it?

Portfolios
When your portfolio is created £100,000 of virtual cash will be deposited into your account. A portfolio can be made public (visible to other users) or private (not accessible to others). This option can be selected in the Administration section. You may create as many private portfolios as you like, but only one competition portfolio! This means that you will be excluded if you are playing with more than one competition portfolio.

Leagues
You can take part in an existing league or create your own new league. You could, for instance have a league for your friends, family or work colleagues. Leagues marked as "public" are open for everyone to join. To join a "private" league, you will need a password, which is obtained from the person who setup the league. Email details for the league creator will be available when you ask to join the league.

Ranking
The ranking shows portfolios with the highest relative perfomance. Thus, the current value versus the value in the beginning of the month or the moment you registered for the prize league. We will not reset you portfolio when the competition ends. We do not look at the absolute amount and performance.

Reality
Winners of the prize league are subject to verification by VirtualTrader. In other words: Cheating does not pay off in the prize league.

Short positions, 200% margin
"Going Short" is selling shares which you do not actually own. This enables you to take advantage of a fall in price, rather then a rise in price. When you go short, the shares are lent to you and to close the transaction you must eventually buy them. A gain can be made if the eventual price you buy them at is lower than the price you "went short" at. A short position is shown in your portfolio by a negative amount of shares. The money you will need to buy these shares is "reserved" plus 100% extra to cover the rise of the stockprice. So you cannot spend it. You are liable for any dividend payments that may become due during this period. You cannot have unlimited short positions. Short selling is only possible in Stocks with an average effective volume of at least 1,5 million per day.Your total short position may not be greater than your net worth.

25% Rule
You are not allowed to invest more than 25% of the total value of your portfolio in one Stock. You must diversify your portfolio.

Interest
Interest is calculated at the end of the week and is fixed at the EURIBOR rate (the standard european interbank rate).

Transaction Costs
Transaction costs are calculated as follows: a basic fee of £ 10.00 plus 0,15% of the transaction value, with an minimum £12,50 and a maximum of £ 175.00 per transaction.

Maximum of 15 transactions per day
The number of transactions in a Prize league portfolio is limited to 15 per day. In your own private game you may do as many transactions as you like. One transaction can consist of many partial orders.

Order execution
Execution takes place against real prices and volumes. In other words, your order will be executed if a transaction takes place on the real exchanges. Orders can be executed in partial orders if demand does not match supply. The actual volume determines when your order is executed.

It is not possible to place two orders for one security at the same time.

Limits
When you buy or sell shares you may wish to supply a limit price. Approximately every minute your transaction is processed to see if the stock is within the limit price you specified. If so, the trade proceeds. If not, the trade fails at the end of the trading day unless you placed a 20-day order.

Dividend
Dividend payments will be done at the end of the week and are added on your virtual Bank account. The system automatically chooses to pay cash dividends. If you have a short position, you are liable for any dividend payments that may become due during this period.

Portfolio Value
Your portfolio's value is calculated using the quote of the last transaction on the Stock Market, with a delay of 15 minutes.

Corporate Actions
If a company has a consolidation, capital reorganisation, Scheme of Arrangement, Bonus Issue, Capital Issue or Reducation of Capital this will be applied to your portfolio automatically. In the case of a demerger you will receive shares of the new company in your portfolio automatically. With rights issues we assume that you do not take up the rights you are offered.

Liability
Virtual Trader can not be held liable for damages as a result of our systems. Technical problems will be solved immediately when they arise, and should they have affected portfolios they will be corrected as good as possible. This means that a portfolio can be resetted or transactions can be cancelled.

Prize awards
Winners of the prize league will be contacted by phone and/or email twice. If no contact can be established the prize will be offered to the next person in line. Make sure we have your correct contact details!

Top-5 winners – once every 6 months
Participants of the prize league, can apply for the top 5 prices only once every six months. Should you win a prize this month, you are excluded from the prizes in the next 5 months.
